A “cookie” is a piece of data, normally stored in text files, that is stored on your computer’s hard drive when you visit a website; it is a way of information being “remembered” between webpages. Cookies are used by nearly all websites and often rely on them to perform certain features and functions.

Cookies are used to record how you move your way around a website so that, when you revisit that website, it can present tailored options based on the information stored about your last visit. They allow you to visit a website, then move around the website and stay “logged in”, and allow you to set preferences for the display of a page, and for these to be remembered the next time you return to it.
Cookies can also be used to analyse traffic and for advertising and marketing purposes
Types of Cookies and how we use them:
A cookie can be classified by its lifespan and the domain to which it belongs. By lifespan, a cookie is either a “session” or a “persistent” cookie. A “session” cookie is one which is erased when you close the browser. These are for essential site functions, and to make sure pages are sent to the browser as quickly and efficiently as possible. A “persistent” cookie can remain on your computer/ device for a pre-defined period of time. Analytics cookies are probably the most common form of persistent cookies.
Strictly necessary cookies: These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our website, use a shopping cart or make use of e-billing services. These cookies are essential to enable you to use the website effectively and therefore cannot be turned off.
Performance / Analytical cookies: These cookies enable us to monitor and improve the performance of our website. They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily, and see which parts of the site are most popular.
We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of our website. Google Analytics gathers information about website use by means of cookies. The information gathered relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of our website. You can find the Google Privacy Policy here
Functionality cookies: These cookies allow our website to remember choices you make and provide enhanced features. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region). They may also be used to provide services you have requested such as viewing a video or commenting on a blog and logging in to your member area.
Secure cookies: These cookies are only transmitted via HTTPS (the prefix you see before the website URL (address).
Common uses include but are not limited to:
Comments: When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, e-mail address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Contact forms & Members Areas: If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
